I installed Ubuntu 16.04 LTS last day on my Lenove Z510. It was fresh installation and not an upgrade from existing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
Installation took only 5 minutes for me!, that was amazing speed. It was my first time ever I move from an LTS to LTS. I was using 14.04 for last two years without any major problems. Thank you 14.04 and welcome 16.04!
I noticed few issues on first use, just after installation.
I had switched to use Jekyll to publish this site and my blog around few months back. I was having the feeling that the Jekyll is having certain limitations that make some jobs hard. Following are the main limitation I felt with Jekyll

RawTherapee is a wonderful image processing software with very good user interface. It is very useful tool for converting RAW image files produced by DSLR cameras to JPEG format. It allows us to apply a lot of fine adjustments to a RAW image and convert to JPEG, PNG or TIFF. I prefer to take images in RAW format rather than directly in JPEG. By this post I am trying to help people taking images in RAW format with their Nikon D5300 camera and using Ubuntu 14.04 as their OS.
It was my dream to have a DSLR camera and to capture stunning photographs. Two weeks ago I realized that dream, I bought a DSLR camera. What I bought is a good DSLR camera, Nikon D5300. Now it is really a matter of situation and patience to capture stunning photographs.
Sometimes I require to copy entire CD or DVD to a file in my computer in ISO1 format. Usually to keep it for frequent access. It is what I do normally with tutorial discs received with some products, discs of wedding videos that I need to return back soon. So, I can avoid keeping the disc in player, also it helps for copying that to another disc.
I switched to Jekyll from WordPress for this blog and my website. Why?
I was mainly seeking simplicity in blogging. When using WordPress, I have to manage its running, updates, etc, and most of them were not necessary as my sites were not using much features of WordPress other than publishing of posts.
I am so disappointed as most of the people are not aware about the privacy issues they face in their daily life, especially regarding the usage of technological solutions like smart-phones.
ഉബുണ്ടു 14.04 ഇൻസ്റ്റാൾ ചെയ്തു. ഒരു പൂർണ്ണമായ വിശകലനത്തിന് മുതിരുന്നില്ല. ചില കാര്യങ്ങൾ മാത്രം കുറിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.
സ്ഥിരമായി ലിനക്സിലേക്ക് മാറിയപ്പോൾ തുടങ്ങിയതാണ് ഉബുണ്ടു ഉപയോഗം. മറ്റുള്ള വിതരണങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മാറണമെന്നൊക്കെ ഇടക്ക് തോന്നാറുണ്ടെങ്കിലും ഉബുണ്ടു വിട്ടുപിടിക്കാൻ ഇതുവരെ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. ഇടക്ക് കുറച്ച്കാലം ഡെബിയൻ 7 ഉപയോഗിച്ചു, അത്ര തൃപ്തിതോന്നിയില്ല. പ്രധാനമായും ചില ആപ്ലിക്കേഷനുകൾക്കുള്ള സപ്പോർട്ടിന്റെ അഭാവമാണ് കാരണം.
കോളേജിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന സമയത്താണ് കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിൽ തൊട്ടതും ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയതും. 2003-2006 കാലഘട്ടമായിരുന്നു അത്. അക്കാലത്ത് കോളേജിലെ ലാബിൽനിന്നും കഫേകളിൽ നിന്നുമായിരുന്നു ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് ഉപയോഗം. വീട്ടിൽ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് കണക്ഷനുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ആരായാലും സ്വഭാവികമായി അറിയാനുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങൾക്കായി തിരയും. കാമ്പ്യൂട്ടറുകൾ കാണുന്നതിനു മുൻപേ യാഹൂ എന്ന പേര് എനിക്ക് പരിചിതമായിരുന്നു, അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ യാഹൂവിലാണ് പരതിത്തുടങ്ങിയത്. ഇതിനിടക്ക് ഗൂഗിൾ എന്ന സെർച്ച് എഞ്ചിനും ഉണ്ടെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കിയിരുന്നു. ചിലപ്പോൾ യാഹൂവിൽ പരതിയാൽ ഉദ്ദേശിച്ച ഫലം കിട്ടാതെ വന്നാൽ ഗൂഗിൾ പരീക്ഷിക്കും. അങ്ങനെയാണ് ഒരു കാര്യം മനസ്സിലായത്, ഗൂഗിളാണ് തിരയാൻ കൂടുതൽ നല്ലത്. യാഹുവിനേക്കാൾ നല്ല ഫലം ഗൂഗിൾ നൽകുന്നതുകൊണ്ടും, ഗൂഗിൾ യാഹുവിനേക്കാൽ പെട്ടെന്ന് ലോഡായിവരുമെന്നതും അതിനുള്ള കാരണങ്ങളായി. പിന്നെ അന്നുമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ ഗൂഗിളിലാണ് തിരച്ചിൽ.
അംഹാറിക്ക് ഭാഷ എഴുതാനുള്ള പിന്തുണ നാരായത്തിൽ ചേർക്കുന്നതാരംഭിച്ചു. നാരായം പിന്തുണക്കുന്ന ആദ്യത്തെ ആഫ്രിക്കൻ ഭാഷയാണ് അംഹാറിക്ക്. യൂണികോഡിൽ 560 കോഡ് പോയിന്റുകൾ അനുവദിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള എത്യോപ്യൻ ലിപിയിലാണ് അംഹാറിക്ക് എഴുതുന്നത്. ഇന്ത്യൻ ലിപികളിൽ നിന്നുമൊക്കെ വ്യത്യസ്തമായി വ്യഞ്ജനങ്ങൾ സ്വരങ്ങളുമായി ചേരുന്ന ഒരോ രൂപത്തിനും പ്രത്യേകം കോഡ് പോയിന്റുകളുണ്ട്. അതിനാൽ തന്നെ എത്യോപ്യൻ ലിപിയുടെ യൂണികോഡ് പട്ടിക വലുതാണ്. സാധാരണ ആവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളവയ്ക്കായി 384 കോഡ് പോയിന്റുകൾ അനുവദിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു, അതുകൂടാതെ മറ്റാവശ്യങ്ങൾക്കുള്ള 176 കോഡ് പോയിന്റുകൾ കൂടി നീക്കിവയ്ക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
I was trying to enable gd for PHP in Ubuntu 11.04. As usual it should be typing in terminal:
$ sudo apt-get install php5-gd
Unfortunately it does not worked and gd was not enabled.
I wrote a resource loader class for PHP web applications. The class will help to manage loading of JavaScripts and CSSs we include within our web pages. Usually these JavaScripts and CSSs have dependencies with other scripts and or CSSs. For example, we have to load jQuery script file before any script that utilize jQuery functionalities within the code. And we have to ensure that we are including the scripts in the correct order. By using this Resource loader class we can forget about it.
For one of my program I was in need to use thread pooling. I tried two of available, then wrote one myself. Rather than waiting for threads by calling join() I implemented checking in a while loop for finishing of threads. The code is given below:
Until now Malayalam community were using a customized free version of old Keyman to type anywhere in a Windows system. Me too was using it in all places except Malayalam Wikimedia projects, on Malayalam Wikimedia projects I use our Narayam which is a built in Malayalam typing solution integrated to Wikis. People were always complaining about Keyman that is does not work on Windows Vista and 7 systems. And even I had started to develop a solution to replace Keyman based solution, I stopped further developments soon after I fully changed my platform to Ubuntu.
Added support for Oriya to Narayam extension. Currently added schemes for Oriya are transliteration and InScript. Subhashish Panigrahi helped to fix the issues in transliteration scheme. I think more issues may come later, as they want more tuning on it. Oriya translator at translatewiki can use this schemes to help their contributions.
Yesterday (2011/03/01) I added two Sinhalese schemes, Singlish and Wijesekara, to Narayam. Now there available at translatewiki. Thus Sinhalese people can contribute more translations without depending on third party tools.
Few days before I added Narayam, an extension that helps to add various input methods to Mediawiki installations, to Mediawiki subversion repository. Then Roan Kattouw rewrote most of its code to use new ResourceLoader introduced to Mediawiki and jQuery. Also Roan made it to load input methods conditionally based on content language and current user p referenced language. So now it has better code structure and efficient working.
