Recovered My Hugo Based Blog

As mentioned in my last post Switched to Zola. I was using Hugo earlier before switched back to WordPress in last quarter of 2019. I did not touch its git repository since then. After published my site with Zola. I was curious to see whether my old Hugo based blog will work out of the box.

I downloaded latest Hugo binary and tried to build my old blog. It did not work! It gave me several errors. Mainly it was because I used "published" in my post front matter to indicate whether the post is published or not. New Hugo expects that to have date time value. I fixed that for many posts.

Then there were warnings about raw HTML in my posts. I had to set markup.goldmark.renderer.unsafe = true in my config file to fix that.

Another change required was adding <!--more--> in every post to generate summary. Otherwise it will show full post in the listing page.

Then onwards, the blog started to render fine without any errors or warnings. I am happy to see it working and that was a fun to do. I have no use of it now. I will keep it as a backup for my historical purposes.
